This cozy weekend house in Bridgehampton, New York, is the weekend retreat of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick. If you've stopped by this blog before you know that I love Sarah Jessica Parker. She is sweet, kind, and down-to-earth. These same qualities seem to be captured in this house, which is comfortable and functional, but doesn't have any of the typical Hollywood glamor and shine. Nothing is over the top and everything is just right. “For me and Matthew, it was important that the house is too precious," Sarah Jessica Parker explains. "We didn’t want anything stuffy or showy. We wanted color and light, and comfort, comfort, comfort.”
The interior was designed by Eric Hughes, a friend of SJP, who had just given up his job as vice president at Universal Pictures. As daunting as the task was, he managed to do a good job creating a wonderful place where the family can have sunny weekends at the beach and invite family and friends over.
You might be surprised seeing the simplicity of the design and the affordable furniture choices. Some of the tables and most of the curtains are from IKEA. The front porch table and wicker chairs are from Pottery Barn. Vintage chairs add character to the place. The vintage chairs gathered around the dining table have been painted for a unified look. Some art pieces have been purchased at the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons thrift store. Even the outdoor shower is a simple area defined with the help of some tarpaulin.
